DENSO heralds its 2023 Go Karting Championship a great success!
It had been a long road to the final, so it was a little disappointing for the final 18 protagonists to arrive at the Lichfield venue and be faced with conditions that rather than being warm and spring-like, were chilly and wet! However, nothing, not even a partially flooded track, was going to dampen the spirits of the hardy finalists who had just one thing on their minds – to be crowned the champion.
Although the format was straightforward, a qualifying heat to decide the nine drivers to compete in the final race, nothing is predictable when you combine motorsport with wet weather. However, it was certainly entertaining as the resilient spectators who had come to support their friends and family were treated to some great driving and audacious overtaking.
The final was no less exciting as the momentum swung first one way and then the other, but at the flag the first three across the line had their ‘moment in the sun’. So, coming home in third place and winning a £100 Red Letter Day voucher was Suleman Firfire from Moffatt’s Motor Accessories, behind second placed Gerard Tohill, a guest of Serfac Limited, who took away a £250 voucher.
However, there can only be one winner and that was Greg Dyson of Spartan Motor Factors, who not only won the accolade of being crowned the 2023 DENSO Go Karting Champion, but also bagged a Toyota GAZOO Racing shirt signed by the 2022 FIA World Rally Drivers’ and Manufacturers’ Winners, as well as a Red Letter Day voucher for £500.
Commenting after the event, DENSO’s UK and Eire Sales Manager, Kevin Peacocke said: “Despite the challenging conditions they faced today, the whole series of qualification events that culminated in this grand final, have been a great success, so congratulations go to each and every one of them. However, there’s only room for one on the top step, so well done to Greg, the 2023 champion.
“We look forward to rekindling the rivalry in the coming months, when we’ll again begin the process of discovering the 2024 champion!”
