16th December 1949 saw the inception of NIPPONDENSO CO. LTD. From this point forward, the company that we now know as DENSO, has evolved to lead the way in advanced automotive technologies.
Florence Lawrence was a silent film star and daughter of inventor Charlotte Bridgwood. Deemed ‘The First Movie Star’ to hit the silver screen, Florence had a glittering career starring in nearly 300 films. However, it’s less widely known that she was also an automotive inventor – devising the first turn signal.
DENSO is celebrating 10 years of its patented Twin Tip (TT) Spark Plug technology. Unique to the independent aftermarket, DENSO’s TT Spark Plugs are available in nickel and iridium, offering 87% car parc coverage throughout Europe. Since the introduction of Nickel TT in 2009 and Iridium TT in 2015, the range has continued to grow in popularity, with its market share increasing 25% year on year over the past six years.
The next women to be celebrated in our Female Pioneers series, in conjunction with ‘International Women’s Day’, are the creators of wiper blades, Mary Anderson and Charlotte Bridgwood. Although they worked independently and during different periods, both women majorly contributed to the automotive industry with their inventions.
Our series of articles featuring historical women, in support of ‘International Women’s Day’ and #BalanceforBetter, continues with Bertha Benz. This brave and ambitious woman helped to launch the world’s very first car.
